TOP 5 Ski Festivals in Europe

Planning a ski stag do? Time it so you can spend your weekend at one of these awesome winter festivals; ideal for ski stag weekends or just a lads holiday in the snow smashing some of the best music and comedy festivals that Europe has to offer.

SNOWBOMBING (AUSTRIA)

Dubbed as the “Mother of Mountain Music Festivals”, SNOWBOMBING takes place in April at a dizzying 8500ft up in the air in Mayrhofen, Austria. The line-up always includes the best DJs on the scene right now and the 2018 line-up is no different. Liam Gallagher, Craig David, DJ EZ, David Rodigan and Redlight, to name a few and there are still plenty more artists to be announced. For the latest announcements on the line-up visit the website at http://snowbombing.com

The festival takes place in the Mayrhofen ski resort and has slopes for all levels of ability; so if you’re stag group are novices or veterans of the slopes; Mayrhofen has you covered. SNOWBOMBING festival is known for its creativity. You can find yourself raving in an igloo, alpine forest, 5-star hotel pool party then mix it up by doing Alpine Yoga, chair-lift speed dating, cruising in snow limos or paragliding… Yeah there is plenty to do!

The accommodation is on par with the rest of the festival, as you can find yourself relaxing in really nice chalets. No need to pack your tents!

RISE (FRANCE)

Taking place in December in Les Deux Alpes, France, Rise is a week-long music festival hosting the cream of dance music’s DJs. Expect a good mix of Garage, House, Techno, D ‘n’ B and Grime. Big names have been announced for the 2017 festival; including My Nu Leng, Patrick Nazemi, Wilkinson and Phillip George. It’s a great shout if you are looking for that epic ski stag experience!

Not as big as some of the other festivals on the list, however Rise still has plenty to offer for ski stag dos and music lovers alike. Apart from the live music there will be an ice disco, cinema screenings, chill out areas (for when it gets too much!) and snow beach parties. The music goes on all day and night and you can find yourself dancing away at 5am (and if you can hack it, back again for the next day).

The only downside to Rise is that you may need another holiday to recover from the week-long “activities”!

SNOWBOXX (FRANCE)

Snowboxx has been going on for 5 years now and has become the best of the best snow music festival around. The line-up speaks for itself; Chase and Status, Fatboy Slim and Mike Skinner are headlining in 2018, with the likes of Artful Dodger also playing. The Mack daddy soprano of the ski stag do world.

Discovering what Snowboxx has to offer is where the fun is at. Hop in a Zorb ball and take part in human bowling as you race down the slopes or join in on a huge snow ball fight in front of big crowds in an ice rink. One activity reserved for the stag (or the brave); the Skim Pool, which involves riding on skis down a mini slope into an ice cold 20 metre pool dressed in their best fancy dress; sounds delightful.

There are 5 stages to choose from in the festival and if that doesn’t take your fancy, pop to Downtown where you’ll find 6 nightclubs and no shortage of a crowd who are up till the early hours of the morning, just bear in mind you need to be up in the morning for the skiing remember!

ALTITUDE (AUSTRIA) – The World’s No.1 Alpine Comedy Festival

If music festivals are not your thing, fear not as this winter comedy festival has you covered! Altitude Festival takes place in the town of Mayrhofen and will leave you in stitches (hopefully due to the laughter and not the antics of the stag weekend!). The festival attracts comedians from all over the globe and acts who appear regularly on T.V. The 2018 line-up includes Terry Alderton, Jimeoin and Zoe Lyons among many more talented performers.

Expect the week to be taken up by plenty of time on the slopes in the day and enjoying your favourite acts at night. Most of the acts begin around 5:00pm every day, which gives you more than enough time to tear it up on the skis and snowboards. Expect to see a few comedians alongside you as you ski as everyone enjoys the week at Altitude: including a performance from Eddie the Eagle this year.

The town of Mayrhofen has plenty to do for the non-skiers and the festival itself other acts apart from the usual stand-up, so you will always find yourself well and truly entertained. So, for once the hills of Austria are not alive with the sound of music… but comedy!

HORIZON

Horizon appears last but by no means is it least on our list. Taking place in the ski resort of Arinsal, Andorra; Horizon is the music festival that keeps on giving. Arinsal is the perfect place beginner skiers and snowboarders as well as the more advanced. So, if you are booking a group holiday for a ski stag do weekend then fear not as there is plenty of options on the slopes for all levels.

Apart from the 2 mountain top stages, where music begins at 1pm, festival goers have the very hard decisions of deciding where to spend their valuable time. Expect alpine paintballing, secret forest raves, campfire comedy, ski and snowboard competitions, a village festival (a festival within a festival, sounds crazy but is not to be missed!) and of course plenty of bars and clubs! So the good times certainly won’t stop after you finish on the slopes.

Throw in a world class line-up (http://horizonfestival.net/lineup/) and what’s not to like? How do I get tickets do I hear you say?
